The official currency of Peru is the Nuevo Sol (S/), however U.S. dollars are also accepted. Currency can be exchanged on the Sol Avenue where there are exchange houses or at banks, as well as at ATM machines, which honour most international credit cards and bankcards. Most establishments such as shops and restaurants will accept payments in US Dollars. Travelers Checks are accepted to a lesser degree. Some houses of exchange change Euros but in an unfavorable rate. Euros are not very commonly used in the region.
